At TCS Automation & Security, we believe that the future of the power industry relies on the hands-on education of today’s students. That is why we are incredibly proud of our enduring partnership with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). As one of our longest-standing and most trusted clients, UTeM shares our vision of merging academic learning with real-world industrial technology.

Previously, our team had the privilege of equipping UTeM’s Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology with a state-of-the-art power supply control and monitoring system.

The Power Distribution Laboratory: Bridging Theory and Practice

UTeM has developed a sophisticated power distribution laboratory designed to simulate the exact conditions of a live electrical grid. This allows engineering students to experience the full lifecycle of power distribution—from the moment electrical energy is supplied by the grid to the final output stages.

To ensure students are learning on industry-standard equipment, TCS Automation & Security implemented a comprehensive control system utilizing a Beckhoff CX5010 PLC and the Reliance SCADA/HMI software suite.

Key Technical Implementations

Our team integrated a highly responsive SCADA environment that allows students and faculty to monitor and control critical infrastructure, including:

  • Advanced Circuit Control: Full operational control over vacuum, air, and motorized circuit breakers.

  • Load Management: Real-time monitoring of resistive, inductive, and capacitive load banks.

  • Equipment Diagnostics: Instant visibility into the ON/OFF states of all lab equipment, gate statuses, and variable-frequency drives.

  • Power Quality Analysis: Seamless communication with digital power meters and protection relays to analyze power quality and ensure system safety.

Accessible Learning Through Smart Technology

One of the standout features of this project is accessibility. By installing Reliance Smart Clients across the laboratory’s computer network, students can easily view the SCADA visualization project directly through standard web browsers. This eliminates technical barriers and allows students to focus entirely on analyzing data and understanding power flow dynamics.

A Partnership Built

on Trust

Our ongoing collaboration with UTeM is more than just a vendor-client relationship; it is a shared commitment to advancing technical education in Malaysia. By providing robust, scalable automation solutions like the Reliance SCADA system, we are ensuring that UTeM graduates enter the workforce with the exact skills and technological familiarity that the modern power industry demands.

We look forward to many more years of innovation and shared success with UTeM!
